I heard about PERL last week so I’m now going to teach it to you

Is is possible to make every common mistake about Perl in one lecture? Prof. I. Sengupta of the Indian Institute of Technology certainly tries. He’s collected all the rumors and sibboleths into one lecture. Take a drink every time he’s talking about something he doesn’t understand.

PERL is one of them internety languages that he read about last week. He hears it’s really popular and that everyone is using the Practical Report and Extraction Language (you know, like Ready Fire Aim). It’s also one of those languages that you don’t have to compile, ever. Java you have to compile, but not PERL. And funny characters tell you the variable type. And PERL is loosely typed.

Oh no! he doesn’t stop there! He keeps going!
